About Us

The Jackson County Shooting Sports was started approximately eight years ago by a dedicated group of adults who wanted to see local youth involved with the sport and recreation of shotgun, archery and small bore.

Over the years, as the interest in archery spread throughout the county, we took the opportunity to begin our own club in the summer of 2004 with five leaders and three members. We quickly grew to twenty members in just a few short months. Four of our seven leaders are currently certified by the State of Oregon as Master Leaders for the discipline of Archery.

The Snowy Butte 4-H Archery Club welcomes all students of Jackson County who are at least nine (9) years old and in the fourth grade to participate in our club. Our club promotes archery as a sport and recreation for the entire family, giving archers a place to be proactive at their sport, promotes safe, ethical, and legal hunting practices, and share with others our experiences, knowledge, and archery skills.

You do not need to have your own bow to begin. Thanks to a generous grant from the National Rifle Association (NRA) we now have a few bows for you to try and see if you enjoy the sport as much as we do. Fundraising events are held throughout the year to allow members the opportunity to purchase their own equipment.

We practice from November to June, competing in the State of Oregon Mail-In Tournament from November to April and the Jackson County Fair in June. Each spring we hold a Field Day at the Skookum Ridge Archery facilities in Prospect where we shoot a 3-D course and enjoy a potluck with the members and their families.
